Sometimes in July...It feels like the days can run together into one hot, sweaty mess. Constant battle against the heat, the war to win and stay cool b/w the house and the car, the car and the next place, back to the car and back home again. I am so glad for A/C in so many places.
So, I was reflecting on the 'sameness' of the days and realized there were some NEW things this summer...or at the very least some things I had not done in a very long time!
1. going to the circus! In August, we will take Annie to the Circus! I am looking forward to making this a yearly tradition with our grandchildren. COME on back, Tyler! Next year we will take 2 with us. I think you need to be almost 4 to really enjoy this event.
2. tubing on the lake and riding a jet ski. I've lived here for years and this summer is the first time I got to experience these 'wild rides', thanks to friends w/ either a boat club membership and owning a jet ski.
3. garage sale! I am NOT a garage sale person, but went Saturday and picked up some old fashioned books for grandkids to read. FONDEST memory of going to my "mama-nita's" was getting to read lots of books.
4. foil - packed dinners on the grill. WOW, what an easy way to cook....uhh, for William to cook. Just place your choice of meat, your choice of cheese, your choice of cut veggies and or fruit and tightly fold your double folded foil around the whole thing and place on the grill about 15-20 minutes. YUMMY! I just add some rice for William, some bread and wine and we are GOOD!
5. The full on battle against the mockingbird attacks to our front porch window...PLEASE help if you have any ideas to keep the creatures from dive bombing our window every single day. I won't go into the list of things we've already tried. I just pray the birds will literally 'knock themselves out'.
6. in the middle of a new job with lots of new people to meet and hang with! :)
7. a wee, little bubbling fountain that I've turned off for just now since it's so hot the water evaporates w/in hours, it seems. PLUS it's kind of hard to hear over my neighbor's LOUD A/C that of course, is running over time.
8. NOT having to mow the yard. I cannot begin to say how thankful I am for Mr. John who makes it happen every Wednesday for only $35!
9. learning how to play TX Canasta with our small group...SO, SO many rules, but really fun.
10. Making 'kettle' corn. Oh, my! Please let me know if you want to know the way to make this addictive snack. My friend, Judy, gave the recipe to me and told me her other friends call it "CRACK" because of it's addictive qualities!
Ok, that's my list! What's yours???
Yes, I want to come by for coffee, because you have the best coffee EVER! I want the kettle corn recipe, I want to go to the circus with Annie someday too, glad you are enjoying some lake fun, come up here and I will take you to see the birds, new job would be nice, diving birds, huh?, I do not even know how to turn my grill on, sad I know, ummm can't remember the rest. Hope to see you in September!!
ReplyDeleteWe can't wait to come back either.
ReplyDeleteIn this land of eternal summer, my favorite thing is going to the pub with Tyler. We go at least once a weekend. I get a cider on ice and Tyler gets an apple juice. We enjoy it even more when Katherine joins us.
I know how refreshing that pub visit can be! Wish I could join you, too! You just reminded me how glad I am for the seasons we DO have in Austin. :)
