The best is yet to come!

I have thoroughly enjoyed each stage of my life, but I've got to say that these mid-life years are really, really nice. Thanks for stopping by to check on this Austin Nana. I like the real thing, though, so come on! Drop by for a coffee date with me sometime soon.

Lake Tawakoni State Park

When you are out camping...you usually DO forget something important... I had to run into Brookshire Brothers (grocery store) in Wills Point, TX near the park to pick up  few things.

Orange juice, OFF spray, Orange cinnamon rolls, and what started as a list of 3 items quickly added up to enough to be billed for about $52. How does that happen?

The sweet little clerk was kind enough to ask if I had a Brookshire's card. I replied, "no, I don't..."

Thinking I had simply misplaced it, she offered to look it up for me by telephone number.

I told her, "I really just don't have one." Since she looked so astonished, I felt like I needed to offer an explanation.

"I'm from Austin and we don't have a Brookshire's there." She said something to the effect of, "Are you sure?? Brookshire's is everywhere." All this with a sweet Texan accent. (Which I DON'T have)

Wills Point is just about 10 minutes away from our campsite and it is really a busy little town. William and I worked outside the Bruce and Human Pharmacy and Christian Bookstore with wifi service almost all day. It sits on a busy corner of a red bricked little main street with very old brick buildings. Most of them have signs painted directly onto the brick...like Rose Dry Goods.

When we got 'home' to the R Pod, the weather was so nice, I got out and experimented with my camera. This Texas spring has really been beautiful.

Our version

We don't play Words with Friends very often. Mainly because our kids and our friends beat us soundly. Not too much fun if you don't win.
However, we have started playing our own version of Words. I come up with a movie quote and William tries to guess where it came from...He gets 20 questions to determine the movie. We only have a few rules and after 24 hours he can look up the quote online to find the source, if he hasn't guessed it by then. Then it's my turn to guess Wm's quote.

The quote goes on the chalkboard in the kitchen. The last few quotes have been:

"If I'm not back in 5 minutes....wait longer." (my personal favorite, even tho I never saw the movie...now the rule is...you have to have seen the movie!)
"As you wish"
"Who else can we ask not to eat"
"You are not yourself today, are you?"

and for today...

Can you guess?

Cheatin' with Paul Newman

not really. Not the REAL Paul Newman. ha, that shows MY age, doesn't it.
I do love his frozen pizza, though. I just get a couple of them for about $5 each, add some fresh mozzarella and spinach and thin slices of ham... and bake as packaging directs. It's really, really good and crispy. That's the way we like it, uh, huh, uh huh. Ooops, dating myself again.

William can eat the whole thing. I eat about 2/3 of one. He gets the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Rockport and Goose Island SP

Brrr. It's cold once again in Texas! Crazy, crazy weather. We were in Rockport this week at Goose Island State Park. Nice, little park...BUT the mosquitos were HUGE. I guess because of that and the fact that the weather was going to turn rainy and cold, we hightailed it back to Austin last night.

Here's our newest addition to the camper...our flag!

I toured Fulton Mansion. Loved it. I love old houses and I really love the history of the people that lived there once upon a time.

Spent an afternoon just walking around Rockport and the "Heritage" district and the bay.

First glimpse of spring and wildflowers. Saw our first  bluebonnets, too!

I thought this sign was funny. I could post this in our attic (minus the 'nets' part)...I call Wm the cable guy. Boxes and boxes of cables and equipment. I guess I'm lucky they are up in the attic! Not lying on the road.

Happy Spring to everyone! Rodeo next week!

Somebody loves us...

I've mentioned before that we are part of a 'small group' that meets about every 2-3 weeks. You would think since at least 2/3 of the group is retired and none of us have children at home any more that it would be super easy to find a time to get together frequently. But, alas...it is not the case. Definitely Wm's loss. The other 2 women in the group are "out of this world" cooks. Last night we met at Jim and Judy's. Dan and Lynda couldn't be there because Lynda is recovering from surgery. We promised to pray for them (and we did!) as soon as we ate dinner. Oh, my! Look at this. Start with dessert first.

Driskill Hotel Chocolate Cake
perfectly yummy...not too heavy and not too sweet
like that other Chocolate Cake we call
Texas Sheet Cake

and then the main course:

Judy's Chicken Enchilada Casserole

just the right amount of 'heat' and oh, so good!
